Mission Statement

St. Croix Central High School is committed to providing comprehensive educational opportunities to our diverse student body through the offering of a wide variety of academic, career and technical programs, citizen enrichment programs, multi-disciplinary learning experiences, and extra-curricular activities in which critical thinking and ethics are promoted, thus continuing our rich legacy of nurturing young minds.

Beliefs
    1. to foster respect for the human and civil rights of all members of the CHS community
    2. to provide an environment for academic excellence and higher education opportunities as well as preparing students for future employment and community service
    3. to assist each student to raise their level of achievement to the fullest
    4. to provide a school climate that will challenge and engage each student in his/her development, growth, and socially acceptable patterns of behavior
    5. to teach students to respect and appreciate their learning environment which will enhance school pride
    6. to assist students in computer literacy and in staying abreast of developing trends in technology in order to meet the demands of today’s changing workforce
    7. to nurture intellectual development in students in order to foster critical and independent thinking, enabling students to make sound judgments and wise decisions
    8. to develop and stimulate interest in our rich Virgin Islands multi-cultural heritage and history.

 

PROFILE OF GRADUATES

All CHS graduates have experienced comprehensive educational opportunities through the school’s offering of a wide variety of academic, and career and technical programs. Additionally, they have developed critical thinking skills and have been exposed to discussions of ethics through their participation in the citizen enrichment programs, multi-disciplinary learning experiences and extra - curricular activities offered.

The following are graduation requirements:

  • All students must earn a minimum of 26 specified Carnegie units (with an opportunity to earn 32 Carnegie units) and have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or above and a GNA of 70% or above
  • 100 hours of community service
  • Graduate Exit Plan

Additionally, to further help students develop into confident, productive citizenship, we guide and nurture them through the following areas:

HUMAN RELATIONS

  • Develop acceptance for our multi-cultural community and for others with differing points of view
  • Develop positive attitudes which will aid the students in accepting their responsibilities in the family and in society
  • Foster respect for the human and civil rights of all members of the CHS community

EFFECTIVE CITIZENSHIP

  • Realize their potential as well as to develop a sense of purpose in life
  • Show civic responsibility and render meaningful service to their community
  • Understand the operations and functions of government and to develop respect for life and property

TECHNOLOGICAL AWARENESS

  • Utilize technological tools in areas of study to prepare them for career opportunities in the 21st Century
  • Utilize technological tools in educational as well as in their personal lives
  • Utilize technological knowledge to contribute positively to the Virgin Islands and the global society

SOCIAL SKILLS

  • Develop a respect for self and others
  • Develop loyalty to oneself, to the school community, to the island and the global society.
  • Show the spirit of cooperation as they interrelate with others
  • Develop leadership qualities and techniques that enhance their ability to learn and share what was learned
  • Understand their individual differences and accept them
  • Adjust to transitional periods and positively handle changes
  • Make independent and responsible decisions

CAREER AND TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Improve, expand, and broaden their career and technical skills to meet the needs of our local and global economy
  • Meet the challenging opportunities which will confront them after completion of selected programs of study
