The Addelita Cancryn Fine Arts Department welcomed family, friends and supporters to its A Christmas on the Rise Concert held December 8 in the school’s auditorium. The festive gathering featured new and familiar holiday selections from the jazz band, concert band, steel pan ensemble and concert choir.
The Mistress of Ceremony, Nisieni Griffith, gave the invocation and Assistant Principal Judy King-Edmeade welcomed guests in the true spirit of the season. A highlight of the evening came with the announcement of the evening’s release of the school’s Christmas on the Rise CD, featuring beautifully arranged pieces from the concert band, concert choir, jazz band and steel pan ensemble.
As the concert got underway, students performed a collection of holiday staples to include Deck the Halls, Mary Did You Know? and Drummer Boy. The concert choir also treated the audience to a VI Christmas Medley, which included the seasonal-favorite, Mama Make Your Johnny Cake. The Wachanga Drummers also performed three selections. Although the night was all about showcasing the students’ talents, the faculty choir performed a special selection arranged by Cancryn music teacher, Malvern Gumbs.
Assistant Principal Elvis Richardson thanked the audience for attending the event, and supporting for the students and their talents. The Concert Choir led the benediction.
Cancryn’s Christmas on the Rise CD is available for purchase at the school for $10.
