Elena Christian Paw-sitive Program Rewards Students for Good Behavior

ECJH PAWSITIVE.jpg

The administration, and faculty and staff at the Elena Christian Jr. High School (ECJH) launched the PAW-sitive program for School Year 2016-17 on September 28 as an incentive to improve students’ overall behavior and academic performance.

The grand opening of the PAW-sitive Room attracted a large number of students who traded off points for well-needed school supplies, games and sporting items.  The room was inundated with lots of electronic pieces, copybooks, pens, pencils, footballs, basketballs, soccer balls and other prizes. These items were found in the PAW-sitive Room to help encourage students to keep their school campus clean and to treat one another fairly at the bus stations, on the school grounds and in the classroom.  Points were also awarded for perfect attendance, turning in homework on time, being neatly dressed and good academic performance.

Points are assigned to items according to their market value.  Thus, a student presented 400 points to earn a basketball and 200 points for an earphone.  Administrators, counselors, teachers, custodians or monitors may award points to students.

The PAW in PAW-sitive represents the paws in the school’s mascot, the Simbas, named after the famous movie, The Lion King.

Stacy Hewitt, Kayavril Duncan-Smalls, Toni Messer and Antoinette Bailey are coordinating ECJH PAW-sitive program for School Year 2016-17.
