Arthur Richards' Suns Receive Warm Welcome from Woodson Warriors On First Day Back

John H. Woodson Jr. High School students welcome Arthur A. Richards Jr. High School students to school on Mon., Sept. 24, 2018.

Arthur A. Richards Jr. High School students and staff were warmly greeted and welcomed to the John H. Woodson Jr. High School campus on Monday, Sept. 24 with a mini-pep rally and bright smiles from the Woodson Warriors.

Woodson students held brightly colored signs with sayings, such as, "We the Warriors Welcome the Suns to Our School, John H. Woodson" as Arthur Richards students arrived on campus for their first day of school for the 2018-19 school year.

Arthur Richards Suns will temporarily hold classes on the Woodson campus until construction is completed at the Arthur Richards campus in Stoney Ground. Richards Jr. High will occupy 15 classrooms on the upper level of Woodson's campus, which can hold a capacity of 1,000 students. Woodson students and staff occupies the lower level of the school building. With both schools operating at the same time, the student population is just over 600.

Kent Moorehead, Arthur A. Richards principal, said the first day of school was good, but not without some hiccups.

"We expected it to be rough, but we will work with it," he said. "They did the best to make the facility ready for students."

At an assembly held for Richards' students and parents, both Moorehead and Assistant Principal Lili Doctrine-Cornelius informed the group of important information regarding ID, bussing, start and end times of the school day, and cellphone use on campus, among other things. Arthur Richards students will report to school for 8:20 a.m. each morning and be dismissed at 3:20 p.m., Moorehead noted.

Following the assembly, students were released to their first period teachers, who guided them to their classrooms. Parents were also encouraged to accompany their children to see where they would be stationed.

More information about the opening of the Arthur A. Richards Jr. High campus in Stoney Ground will be released when available.
