Hurricane Irma Update

September 12 |  7:00 p.m.

The Virgin Islands Department of Education urges all of its employees to reach out to their division and/or school leaders for a safety and wellness check by Thursday, September 14. Any means of communication is accepted, to include, phone call, text, social media messaging, email or word-of-mouth.

All kitchen managers in the St. Thomas - St. John District are directed to report to the Lockhart Elementary School tomorrow, Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at 1 p.m.

The employees of the Julius E. Sprauve School in St. John are asked to come into the school for a brief meeting with the school administrators tomorrow, Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at 1 p.m.

 

 

September 10 |  7:30 p.m.

All employees who work out of the VIDE main headquarters, located in downtown Charlotte Amalie, and all employees of the Maintenance division are asked to report to work on Monday, September 11, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. to assist with the clean-up process.

Please disregard the notice sent prior about a 9:00 a.m. report time.

On Tuesday, September 12, the Department of Education is asking all principals in the St. Thomas- St. John District to report to main headquarters at 1:00 p.m.

We are urging all teachers, administrators and school staff to keep away from school sites until further notice. Assessments must be made to ensure the safety of the buildings before employees are asked to report back.

 

September 9 |  7:00 p.m.

The Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDE), Office of the Insular Superintendent, St. Croix District announces that students are to report for school for the opening of the 2017-18 school year on Tuesday, September 12, 2017. 

Faculty and staff in the District should to report for work at their respective locations on Monday, September 11, and all school principals are to report to the Curriculum Center at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, September 11 for a meeting with the District’s leadership.

 

St. Thomas – St. John District

Employees of the VIDE main headquarters, located in downtown Charlotte Amalie, are asked to report to work on Monday, September 11 to assist with the clean-up process in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma. Employees are also encouraged to bring cleaning supplies, if possible.

 

September 5 |  10:40 a.m.

All Department of Education employees are allowed to leave work at 12:00 p.m. today. 

Workspaces should be secure prior to leaving. Please take pictures of your classrooms, offices, and/or work area before you leave today September 5, 2017 to ensure that if damages occurs they can be quickly reported and submitted. 

 

September 4  |  12:00 p.m.

The Department of Education informs the public that students are not to report for school on Tuesday, September 5, 2017.

All Education employees, however, are to report for work to secure buildings and workspaces ahead of Hurricane Irma.

September 4  |  8:15 a.m.

The Government of the Virgin Islands is monitoring all official weather reports on Hurricane Irma from the National Weather Service, San Juan, PR.

At this time, a decision has not been made regarding the opening of schools for the 2017-18 school year, slated for Tuesday, September 5.

The Department of Education is working closely with Government House and the Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency (VITEMA) to monitor the hurricane’s progress.

In the interim, families are encouraged to be prepared.
