DOE Maintenance: Lew Muckle Elementary Gets A Facelift

Lew Muckle Elementary School was one of many St. Croix schools that boasts significant improvement to its facilities. Here, windows are treated and repainted at the historic Estate Sion Farm school.

St. Croix Superintendent Colleen Mae Williams and Director of Maintenance William Matthew are pleased to announce significant improvements in the district’s school facilities as the Virgin Islands Department of Education prepares to open the 2016-17 School Year on September 6.

The improvements are in line with the Department of Education’s commitment to ongoing maintenance of its school buildings.

Local funds were used to improve long-standing adverse conditions at six district schools, namely Lew Muckle, Claude O. Markoe, Eulalie Rivera, Juanita Gardine and Pearl B. Larsen elementary schools, as well as at St. Croix Central High School.

Kindergarten classrooms at Lew Muckle Elementary received a welcomed facelift as aging railings, doors and ceiling tiles have been removed and replaced with brand new ones. Additionally, eight, four-ton mini split air conditioning units have been installed in various classrooms, and the exterior windows of the historic Estate Sion Farm school have been treated and repainted.
