It was a celebration like none other.
On April 12, K-3rd grade students at Jane E. Tuitt (JET) Elementary celebrated Week of the Young Child with a Student Showcase featuring singing, dancing, modeling and poetry recitals. Mrs. Ann Bramble-Johnson, kindergarten teacher, served as WOYC coordinator at the school.
The event got underway with Mrs. Popo-Febres' second grade class presenting a modeling showcase featuring students Valencia Smithen, D'Angelo Cocco, Dcshe Duncan, Nachely Herrera, Jekoi Marshall, Nestor Ramirez, Destiny Este, and Najai Liburd.
Ms. Molyneaux's second grade class then recited a poem titled, "JETS," praising the school's mascott and promoting school spirit. The recital was conducted by Yadiel Segura-Mota, Kevani Greaves, A'Mya Harrigan and Le'Koi Vanterpool.
Then, the "Learner's Pledge" was presented by Chelia Reyes Morla and Jokayla Andrews in Mrs. Jn Charles' third grade class. Students from Mrs. Francis' third grade class presented the poem, "A Virgin Islands Child," that spoke about being uniquely Virgin Islander. Students from Ms. Hazelwood's art class also presented works from an art contest held at the school. The theme was "Celebrate Life" and many of the drawing featured tropical settings with symbols representing health awareness campaigns.
The grande finale of the showcase came with students doing a dance routine to the pop tune, "Shower." The choreography was done by Angelica Nicholas Santana.
Acting Principal Thelca Bedminister expressed her love, pride and support of the young students during her closing remarks. Mrs. Bramble-Johnson then closed out the event by sharing 20 statements of encouragement (see directly below) with the young students, after which she propelled a replica of a jet signifying the school's moto: "JETS soar!"
