THE VIRGIN ISLANDS DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION DIVISION OF STE(A)M EDUCATION ENCOURAGES STUDENTS TO SUBMIT CONTENT FOR NATIONAL STEM / STEAM DAY 2023

The Virgin Islands Department of Education State Office of Curriculum and Instruction encourages students to participate in the 2023 National STEM/STEAM Day. This day is observed annually on November 8th and is dedicated to supporting children in exploring their interests in the fields of science, technology, engineering, art, and math through fun and engaging ways. This day helps students and educators to be aware of STEM/STEAM all around them and how it can impact their lives and the nation’s economy.

The National STEM/STEAM Day is solely focused to help students rekindle their passion for innovation in the fields of STEM and STEAM. There are several ways that students, teachers, parents, and communities can observe National STEM/STEAM Day to include exploring art and architecture, completing a science project, learning coding, encourage problem-solving with STEM/STEAM skills, reading fun stories with technology and science involved, and incorporating robotics or design thinking activities.

The Division of STE(A)M Education is calling on all students to observe STEM/STEAM activities formally or informally and to document their experience. This can be done through photographs, videos, artwork, or any other creative way to capture the project and experience. Students are asked to share their work and all artifacts with the Division of STE(A)M Education via email to: shamika.williams@vide.vi. The submission deadline is Friday, November 3, 2023.

On November 8, 2023, students are asked to flood social media with digital images of STEM/STEAM Day in action and use the following hashtags: #VIDESTEAMDAY; #NationalSTEMDay; and #STEMSTEAMDay
