Any individual interested in coaching a Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDE) school sports team, must be VIDE Sports Certified. VIDE Sports certified coaches' certification from NFHS is good for three years. Additionally, individuals must complete a Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) criminal record check within the current school year, on an annual basis. Certification certificate(s) and the original criminal record document must be submitted to the Division of Sports and Athletics (DSA). Only individuals who are eligible to coach will be placed on the coaches' roster for selection. Only individuals on the coach's certification roster are eligible to coach and receive a stipend.
Anyone interested in becoming a certified coach should go to nfhslearn.com website and register, pay the required courses fee and start working on the courses. You will also be required to participate in a coach's certification workshop to complete the process.
Go to the NFHSLearn.com website to find out more information about the online courses. You can register for free. First click on the menu bar where it says courses. When choosing a course, click on the photo next to the course name. When ask for which state, choose "outside of the USA". The price for the course will then show. When paying for the course choose US Virgin Islands as your country.
Coaching certification required online courses and their fees, which may vary:
1. Coaching of the Specific Sport $50 to $75 depending on the sport
2. Fundamentals of Coaching $50
3. The Collapsed Athlete $Free
4. First Aid, Health and Safety $35
5. Protecting Students from Abuse Free
6. Concussion in Sports Free
Tackle Football Coaches must also complete the online course Blocking, Tackling and Equipment Fitting $10 on the NFHSlearn.com page to be certified.
Specific Sports Skills live clinics will be offered in the future. Approximately $25
