Federal Grant

is financial assistance provided by a U.S. federal agency to a recipient—which can be a state or local government, or an organization—for a specific public purpose authorized by law. 

These grants, funded by the general federal revenue, are essentially funds that do not need to be repaid, but they must be used in accordance with the government's guidelines for that particular grant.
