CHS Foreign Languages Club Learn Puerto Rican Culture During Exchange

Students enrolled in CHS Foreign Languages Club learn the Bomba at the Dance & Arts Institute in Fajardo, PR during an educational and cultural exchange trip to the island.

 

St. Croix Central High School students enrolled in the Foreign Languages Club visited Puerto Rico May 2-6  to engage in educational and cultural exchange with their peers on the nearby Caribbean island.

The week-long exchange was conducted with students at the vocational school in Loiza, PR as well as with students at the Dance & Arts Institute in Fajardo. CHS students learned about Puerto Rican culture, which included learning the bomba dance.  The trip helped reinforce the students' learning of the Spanish language, which they are being taught in school. As part of the educational and cultural tour of Puerto Rico, CHS students visited El Morro, Capitolio, Old San Juan,  Raices Restaurant, School of Loiza, Dance & Arts Institute in Fajardo, El Yunque, Ponce, Interamerican University of Fajardo, Bio Bay and Light House Las Cabezas and Plaza Las Americas. 

CHS Spanish Teacher Eli A. Torres and Spanish Department Chairperson Ms. Steel organized the trip. The Hon . Mayor of Fajardo  Anibal Melendez Rivera and First Lady  Diana Mendez de Melendez sponsored the trip.
