The Virgin Islands Department of Education is pleased to share the availability of the Nancy E. Powell Callwood Memorial Scholarship Application for Career and Technical Education (CTE) students.
This scholarship, established in honor of the late Nancy E. Powell Callwood, a dedicated educator, leader, and advocate for student success, provides financial assistance to support students pursuing higher education in a career and technical field.

Public Notice

The Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDE) is now accepting sub grant applications (proposals) from V.I. Government and non-governmental agencies to include non-profit community and faith-based organizations to fund Adult Education and Family Literacy Act (AEFLA) Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Title II in the St. Thomas/St. John and St. Croix Districts.

This grant competition seeks to award applications that will establish and or improve adult education and literacy activities in the Territory of the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Public Notice

The Virgin Islands Department of Planning and Natural Resources (DPNR) has issued a public notice regarding an upcoming meeting of the St. Croix Committee of the Virgin Islands Coastal Zone Management (CZM) Commission.

The meeting is scheduled for:
Thursday, May 7, 2026
Time: 5:30 p.m.
Platform: Microsoft Teams

This meeting will include public hearings for Federal Consistency Determinations related to major reconstruction projects involving the Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDE), including:

Claude O. Markoe School (Pre-K–8): Demolition of the existing campus and construction of a modernized facility with updated classrooms, administrative offices, library, cafeteria, kitchen, and supporting infrastructure.

Alexander Henderson School (Pre-K–8): Full demolition and redevelopment of the campus to include new educational and support facilities designed to meet current standards.

The Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDE) advises the public that following the 6:00 a.m. weather update from the National Weather Service, all public schools will open on their regular schedule today, Monday, April 13, 2026.
 
The Department has closely monitored weather conditions impacting the Territory and, based on the latest updates and recommendations, it has been determined that public schools can open for normal operations. Weather patterns and shifts can occur throughout the day. VIDE will remain vigilant in the event that operational changes are needed. At this time, the decision has been made to have public schools open on Monday, April 13, 2026.

Important Announcement
The State Director of Special Education, Ms. Kathleen Merchant, announces that copies of the Special Education FFY 2026 Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Part B Federal Grant Application are available for public review in both school districts for a period of 60 days.
Public comments will be accepted up to 30 days after the close of the public review period. Comments may be submitted to the State Director of Special Education via email at kathleen.merchant@vide.vi, or delivered in person to one of the following locations between March 16 and May 20, 2026:
  • Frostco Building, First floor, St. Thomas
  • State Office of Special Education, Main Education Complex, Hospital Street, St. Croix
